Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at doggiestaynplay@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • DAPP (a.k.a. DHPP) vaccine. This combination vaccine protects dogs against Distemper, Adenovirus type 1 (Hepatitis), Adenovirus type 2 (respiratory), Parainfluenza and Parvovirus. After the initial series, your dog will still need periodic boosters, with the frequency being determined by your veterinarian and based on your dog’s age, lifestyle, and other risk factors. If your dog is due for a booster, it should ideally be done at least 3 weeks before their stay at a kennel to allow them to build up the best immunity prior to boarding.
  • Rabies vaccine. The rabies vaccine is mandated by state laws and required every 1 or 3 years, depending on your location.
  • Leptospirosis vaccine. This vaccine helps protect dogs from Leptospirosis. This bacterial infection can destroy the kidneys and/or liver. It’s sometimes given in conjunction with the DAPP vaccine, but can also be given on its own. Yearly boosters are then necessary to ensure the best level of protection.
  • Bordetella (formerly called canine kennel cough) vaccine. The Bordetella vaccine is very important when your dog is being boarded or attends doggie daycare. The vaccine needs to be given at least one week before their stay and boarding facilities require this vaccine to be given once a year at minimum (but some require a 6-month vaccine schedule because of the prevalence of Bordetella).

We require the dogs to be at least 12 to 17 weeks (3-4 months) old. The reason for this is because all certified kennels require incoming puppies to have had their first round of adult shots at 12 weeks, followed by the second round at about 16 weeks.  This minimum is purely for your puppy’s own protection. Despite the best efforts of kennel operators, a young puppy is at higher risk of being exposed to air-borne viruses and also has a tougher time fighting them off.

We require that all our guests are spayed and neutered between 6 months and one year of age, depending on breed.  Any female in heat is not permitted on the premises for safety reasons.

We will let you know if we feel your dog is not a good fit at our facility while unneutered due to aggression or marking. This is on a dog to dog basis.

It is important that all parents are transparent about their dogs off leash tendencies. If a dog is at a high flight risk we will still take them on pack walks with a 30 foot lead rope, as well as attach a tracker to their collar.

We find that dogs typically stay in a pack and having so much space limits distractions of taking off.

Again it is very important for the owner to be transparent abut their dogs behavior. We have seen may dogs with social anxiety due to the pandemic. We suggest coming with your dog for a meet and greet before you book a full day of daycare. Every dog deserves a chance to learn to socialize. We will do slow introductions and separate dogs into good play groups. We will always contact the owner if we feel their dog is just not a good fit.

Yes, we have a large 2 acre fenced in area that your dog can play, swim and run. It is attached to the indoor play area for naps and cool downs. Our fences are 6 feet high all the way around.

Daycare: Bring your dog.

Please have a collar on your dog, but we do not require the leash. We advise not bringing any toys from home as this can cause aggression. If your dog eats lunch please bring it, although we suggest waiting until your dog is home to feed. We find that the dogs are so simulated during the day they are to busy to want to eat.

Boarding: bring your dog. Please have a collar on your dog. A dog bed and food is all you need. We do not suggest bringing toys or treats from home.

Absolutely NOT! We do not lock dogs up during the day at all. They have free range and monitors 24/7 they are with us. They sleep when they want to and play when they want to! We do not believe in locking dogs away in kennels.

Note: if a dog needs to be separated due to behavior we do have sections to do so.

We have large fenced area for your dog to comfortably sleep. We do have to separate each dog at night and feeding. Please feel free to bring a bed or blanket.

Your dog is only kept in the sleeping area from 9pm till 7am. All boarding dogs join the daycare during the day, that is apart of the boarding pricing. No dog is kenneled during the day.
